Biography

Alain April is an engineer and professor at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS). For several years, he has supported IT groups within numerous organizations in improving their processes, particularly in the context of large-scale software acquisition projects.

Author of more than a dozen books on Software Quality Assurance (SQA) used in higher education, he has also received an ISO award for his involvement in the development of international standards.

 

Charles Morgan is the national co-leader of the Cyber/Data Group at McCarthy Tétrault, former leader of the firm’s Technology Law Group, and former president of the International Technology Law Association (iTechLaw). He is widely recognized as a thought leader in the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence.

Charles takes a comprehensive approach to data, helping clients unlock the significant value embedded in their data while effectively managing the associated risks. He regularly serves as specialized breach counsel for clients facing business-threatening cyber risks and has been called upon to advise on three of the largest cyber incidents in Canadian history.

His practice primarily focuses on advising major clients of the firm on complex commercial transactions involving IT outsourcing, systems integration, cloud computing, financial technologies, data security, privacy protection, artificial intelligence, licensing, e-commerce, and telecommunications.

Charles was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Privacy and Data Protection Law (Montréal) by Best Lawyers in Canada (2025) and “Lawyer of the Year” in Technology Law (Montréal) by Best Lawyers in Canada (2024).

 

Workshop Description
