Biography
Sara Rankohi is an Assistant Professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and leads the ESG and Sustainability stream of the ESG-UQAM Project Management Chair. She also serves as Scientific Director of the OQRC and Senior Vice-President of the SCGC.
A recognized expert in collaborative project delivery (IPD/RPI), sustainability, BIM, circularity, performance indicators, and infrastructure governance, she works closely with numerous public organizations in Québec and across Canada to enhance project management practices and sustainable value creation.
Workshop Description
Public and private organizations are facing increasing pressure to demonstrate that every dollar invested in infrastructure generates real, sustainable, and measurable returns. Traditional value assessment approaches—focused primarily on the cost–quality–schedule triangle—are no longer sufficient to meet contemporary imperatives such as carbon neutrality, resilience, circularity, operational performance, social value, governance, and risk management.
This workshop introduces an innovative Value for Money (VfM 2.0) framework, based on collaborative delivery models (IPD/RPI, PDB, Alliance), portfolio management, life cycle assessment (LCA), and integrated performance measurement.
Drawing on real-world experiences observed notably at SQI, MTMD, Hydro-Québec, and other public asset owners, the workshop will highlight how:
-
Collaborative approaches improve predictability and reduce cost overruns through performance indicators (KPIs)
-
Early-stage decisions generate up to 70% of long-term value
-
BIM, LCA, and ESG indicators transform how project value is assessed
-
Collaboration creates a higher societal return on investment
Participants will leave with a practical framework to demonstrate—with supporting data—that sustainability creates monetary value and that responsible governance increases returns on public infrastructure investments.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
-
Understand how sustainable approaches directly influence infrastructure return on investment (ROI)
-
Apply a Value for Money 2.0 framework integrating sustainability and operational performance
-
Identify how collaborative delivery models enhance project value creation
-
Use credible indicators to measure the long-term value of an asset
-
Better communicate financial, environmental, and social value to public decision-makers to support informed strategic choices
