Description

The Montréal Space for Life is a C$190 million project that brings the city’s

Biodôme, Insectarium, Botanical Garden, and Planetarium together in one place to offer an integrative experience that fosters immersion, connection, and participation; and a public square that creates new means of gathering, inhabiting a space, and building and experiencing everyday life. Canada’s largest natural sciences museum complex is being transformed into the first space dedicated to humankind and nature.

This development plan will enrich Montréal’s built and cultural heritage and help to revitalize an area which historically helped build Montréal’s international reputation, while promoting the involvement of citizens and local stakeholders.

Thanks to its daring, its innovative approach in an urban environment, its creativity and its commitment to knowledge, biodiversity and sustainable development, Space for Life is positioning Montréal as a leader among the cities of tomorrow, all of them concerned about the future of humanity.

Speaker:

Charles-Mathieu Brunelle has extensive experience and expertise in managing cultural organizations. He has been the executive director of Montréal’s Espace pour la vie (Biodôme, Insectarium, Botanical Garden and Planetarium) since August 2008, charged by the city of Montréal with reinvigorating this prestigious group of institutions. He was vice-chair of the board of directors of TOHU from 1999 to 2008, an organization he helped to found and of which he was the first executive director. Mr. Brunelle has also been part of many achievements that have shaped Montréal’s cultural scene in recent years (Cinémathèque Québécoise, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, etc.). Over the years, Mr. Brunelle has been a guest speaker at many conferences all around the world. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and is also President of the KARUNA Canada Foundation, an organization working on humanitarian projects in Asia.
