Description

Building high performance virtual teams presents managers with special challenges that are not present in face-to-face teams. Topics include leveraging talent, group processes, communicating in a virtual world, working in a global environment, and motivating culturally diverse groups.

Working in virtual team is a challenge for team members and project managers as well. The presentation will explain virtual team dynamics based on case studies featured in by major universities (Harvard, MIT) and channel attention on the future of virtual teams and the challenges that come with them:

-          Remote locations

-          Different time zones

-          Cultural difference

-          Different work ethics

-          Holidays

-          Women at work in some developing countries

A short video, created by my colleagues at Harvard University, will be presented to outline the cultural differences in a virtual team. Virtual teams have tremendous advantages in some areas that will also be explored in the presentation.

Speaker : Adina Gottardi is a Project Manager, worked in virtual teams in private sector and government: Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health, Canadian Forces, Export Development Canada, and Honeywell Security Systems.

Adina has Masters in Science and a Bachelor in Computer Science. Currently she is completing a graduate professional certification in Strategic Management at Harvard University.
