Description

OBJECTIVE

Networking, meeting place, sharing of best practices, discussions on real and current issues, reunion and conviviality: these are all objectives targeted by PMI-Montreal's communities of practice. Entirely run by dedicated and committed volunteer teams, these communities of practice are free for our members * and represent one of PMI-Montreal's proudest achievements.

DESCRIPTION

Re-thinking about the limits women set to their own leadership style, or how do women get a seat at the table.

Today, even with all the progress and success related to gender equity, women continue to be a minority in senior management positions. Although 82% of women aged 25 to 54 now participate in Canada’s workforce, they are still underrepresented in leadership roles. Only 25% of vice-president positions and 15% of CEO positions. Despite outnumbering men in higher education, women still significantly lag behind their male counterparts as they enter their working years and are drastically underrepresented in terms of being promoted into higher-paying positions. A 2017 global ranking of gender equality in National Parliaments placed Canada at #63, falling behind Rwanda, Mexico, Afghanistan, and South Sudan. This obviously is an issue, and many organizations and government agencies are working now on changing this.  However, that type of change just doesn’t happen overnight and also requires women to change their mindset. More than social barriers, women must rethink about the limits they set to their own leadership style, both consciously and unconsciously. Since a job title doesn’t make you a leader, Svetlana Sidenko, President of IT Chapter, will share insights on how to succeed in getting a seat at the table and even becoming the head of it.
