Getting involved to drive transformation: Achille Ubalijoro’s journey on the PMI-Montréal Board of Directors

Volunteering on the PMI-Montréal Board of Directors has been one of the most transformative experiences of my career. We often imagine a Board as a formal setting, but here, it is truly a place of impact. Decisions made there directly influence the evolution of our profession and the way our community grows.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to contribute to strategic directions that strengthen the position of project management in Québec. It is a role that requires rigor, yes—but above all, a genuine desire to move our ecosystem forward. You learn about governance, but also about listening, vision, and collaboration. I have had the privilege of meeting exceptional individuals within the Board, the administrative team, and throughout the global PMI ecosystem—individuals who bring insight into the challenges of other domains of the profession, both here and around the world—and, of course, friendships that naturally emerge along the way.

What has impressed me most is the strength of the community. PMI-Montréal brings together passionate professionals, committed leaders, and emerging members eager to grow. Serving on the Board means being at the heart of this dynamic—building bridges, supporting initiatives, and witnessing firsthand the tangible impact of our engagement on members.

And then there is innovation. The profession is evolving rapidly: new approaches, digital transformation, collaborative leadership. On the Board, we have the unique opportunity to influence the programs, events, and projects that enable professionals to stay at the forefront. It is stimulating, demanding, and deeply rewarding.

If I had to summarize my experience, I would say that serving on the PMI-Montréal Board of Directors means contributing to something greater than yourself. It is about giving back while growing personally. And to those who may be hesitating to apply: take the leap. You will discover a community that welcomes you, challenges you, and transforms you.”
