Dear PMI-Montreal members,
These are exciting times, rich in innovation for project management. At the PMI Global Summit, held in Los Angeles from September 18 to 21, landmark announcements were made that will redefine the way we approach and conduct our projects.
PMI unveiled a new vision of project success, the result of an extensive and rigorous global study - the largest ever conducted in the field.
Traditionally measured by adherence to schedule, budget and scope, success is now defined by the value generated by the project. A successful project generates value that justifies the effort and expense. Whereas only 37% of projects define and measure success criteria, measuring project performance and tracking it throughout the project cycle doubles the chances of success. This shift in perspective puts the emphasis on impact and benefits for stakeholders. Find out more about the research (available in English and French).
Major themes
One of the highlights of this year's summit is that soft skills are becoming essential competencies. Stakeholder management has always been crucial, but the importance of emotional intelligence is now recognized as a must for project managers wishing to lead effectively. Project managers are increasingly focusing on mastering conflict resolution, influencing without authority and collaborating in increasingly complex environments. Developing these skills enables project managers to successfully navigate ever-changing organizational dynamics.
Another key theme is that PMO maturity is accelerating. Organizations are redoubling their efforts to evolve their project management offices (PMOs) to better align with changing business needs. This includes the integration of digital tools and agile processes, enabling better adaptation to ever-changing environments.
In addition, PMI continues to take the profession to new heights with state-of-the-art tools and resources. New features include the AI Practice Guide and certifications associated with AI best practices. Artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize decision-making, forecasting and project management efficiency. Find out more about our new AI tools.
Another major step forward is the launch of version 2.0 of PMI Infinity, an artificial intelligence virtual assistant designed to facilitate project management. PMI Infinity has enormous potential for supporting project managers in their day-to-day work.
In addition, PMI is celebrating 40 years of the PMP certification, which continues to grow and evolve with new versions of certification, including PMI-ACP, expanded to include more Agile methodologies, PMI-CP for the construction sector or PMO-CP for establishing a project office.
To stay at the forefront of our profession, PMI-Montréal encourages you to explore these new resources to enrich your practices.
Congratulations also to our members Benoît Lalonde, Alejandro Romero-Torres, Alcides Santopietro and Alain Chaput , who presented papers at this world summit.Their contribution enabled us to showcase Quebec's expertise in our profession.
