Managing Project Value: A Practice That Pays Off
ByLucie Parrot, 2026-05-04, 11:00
Whether you are new to value analysis or an experienced professional, investing time in better managing the value of your projects can deliver significant returns. More satisfied clients, staying within budget, and delivering products or infrastructure on time are just a few of the expected benefits of value studies.
This practice has existed for a long time and continues to evolve, becoming increasingly essential in measuring project success. In fact, the PMBOK references value several times and explains that a successful project is one that generates and delivers value to the client. But how can you know whether a project is generating the greatest possible value? You need to measure it—and tools exist to do exactly that.
Within the international value community, value is commonly defined as the ratio between the satisfaction of needs and the cost required to meet those needs. Cost is most often expressed in dollars, but it can also be measured in time when optimizing a process, in weight when optimizing an aircraft engine, or in any other resource required to create a solution.
Measuring value therefore involves assessing both the degree to which needs are met and the “cost” of the proposed solution. Several factors can influence the satisfaction of needs. Of course, there is the fundamental need that must be fulfilled according to the desired level of performance, but additional considerations—such as social acceptability or sustainable development—can also be included, making the project more satisfying for certain stakeholders.
To learn more about the value approach, you can visit the Value Analysis Canada website at www.analysedelavaleur.ca, and attend their symposium taking place in Montréal on May 5.
Come connect with value analysis experts who will share their experiences and perspectives. Through real-world case studies, successful projects, and the latest developments in value methodology, these speakers will provide a current and in-depth look at the discipline.
Value Day Montréal 2026 will take place in one of Montréal’s most beautiful buildings: the National Archives on Viger Avenue. Much like this heritage building, value analysis reflects two sides of the same reality: a long-established practice that has been renewed and modernized with a strong focus on efficiency.
This event offers a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge, fuel your thinking, and connect with a community dedicated to optimizing project value.
In addition, 7 hours of professional development credits will be granted for attending the event.
Registration is now open. Space is limited. Visit our website to view the full program: https://www.analysedelavaleur.ca/conferences.php?id=211§ion=conference_detail&pid=271
