5. A NOTE ON ETHICS IN QUEBEC
The concept of ethics is contemplation on the values that orient and motivate our actions in society. This contemplation applies to our relationships with others. In professional ethics, it is about the values that motivate the behavior of professionals, values that are reflected in the codes of conduct.
In Quebec and most of Canada, project management adheres to a code of ethics that frames the actions of project managers who are members of PMI.
The practice of project management needs not only the formal adoption of the code but its effective application in the context of regular activities of the project manager. Adhesion to the code of ethics is not optional regardless of the type of profession the member belongs to. This demonstrates the importance accorded to it and the need to understand the issues and challenges related to its adoption and its implementation.
In Quebec, PMI's code of conduct is not different than the one adopted around the world. For information regarding the PMI’s code of ethics, consult http://www.pmi.org/About-Us/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics.aspx.
It is important to know that the professional orders of Quebec have their own code of conduct. Therefore, if you want to practice one of the professions regulated by a professional order, you must understand the functioning of the order that regulates the profession, and also know its code of conduct.
