4. PRESENTATION LETTERS (COVER LETTERS)

The presentation letter is the second most important document accompanying the CV when submitting your application to a given position. Its objective is to let the candidate distinctively highlight the link between their profile, professional objective and motivation with the mission of the position that the recruiter is trying to fill. It must also contain a brief summary of your experience and skills. In general, it is recommended to limit the content of the letter to a single page.

In a presentation letter, it is recommended to indicate why the position interests you and why the employer should hire you (what will you bring to the organization). Always use a courteous tone from the beginning to the end of the letter.

« Immigrants bring many interesting assets to the project management domain. For example, their international experience, their adaptability and a different way of seeing things, are all highly regarded by some employers. » (Marc Messier)

Do not repeat the information from your CV in the letter. However, you can indicate in the letter a few interesting elements to look for in your resumé.

You must be specific in your presentation letter. The letter must always be written using terms related to the position you are applying for.

« In a presentation letter, it is always interesting to get the name and position of the hiring manager to which you are addressing the letter and insert it in the document. » (Christiana Simonsen)
